going through some newspaper cuttings about m.e...
one dr wrote. she will tell me talking on the phone for a little while leaves her needing complete bedrest for the next 4 hours.
a quick trip to the shops can lead to 3 days in bed. at other times she appears to be rushing around in rude health.

studies suggest those most at risk are active, hardworking people not willing to slow down.
high achievers.

she takes longer to get over viruses that others would recover quite easily from.
a sympathetic doctor and good friends are better than drug treatments.

m.e is thought to be caused by damage to the immune system after a virus.
exercise is the worst thing you can do and stress compounds the problem.

a girl writes, it started with a sore throat 5 years later i was bedridden. doctors didn't recognise what was wrong.
my memory used to be really sharp but with m.e. it feels like it is locked behind closed doors.

another girls life has been blighted for 10 years. her mother wrote,
last year she could manage to get around a bit but its so unpredictable,
we can only hope she,ll get better.
her illness started like many others with repeated infections. she was labelled neurotic,

she was seen by a psychologist her eyes were closing after half an hour.
today she is very low as illness has ravaged her body.
just a few..

classic symptoms are...
persistent sore throat, weakness in the legs an unsteady walk,
physical and mental tiredness which lasts a long time even after trivial exertion .

episodes of confusion. memory impairment, pins and needles, sleep disturbance.
vivid dreams, the tendency to write extremely long letters.
twitching aching muscles, racing pulse and palpitations.
"malaise" feeling very ill.

do,s .......
nap if sleepy, even in daylight hours. trust the messages your body gives you.
don,t overextend yourself.
put something enjoyable into every day no matter how ill you are.
few people understand m.e. unless they,ve experienced it.
