Bridget bellasyse heiress to the Brancepeth castle estates was romantically involved with Robert shafto.....rumour was she had an obsessive love for him after he went on to marry someone with a bigger fortune........ mention of a baby with wife..
this love affair inspired the well known song.. "Bobby Shafto,s gone to sea, when he comes back he,ll marry me " ..........he lived in nearby Whitworth hall and was reputed to be a bit of a cad......
Bridget died of a broken heart in 1774................. after hearing of his marriage.
Bridget did,nt throw herself out of the castle window that faces Whitworth hall as stated in history books nor did she become the white lady that haunted the castle tower,
she died in london..........
all this cos i looked out of the window sunday afternoon and today, noticed a beautiful sunset..above Brancepeth , its nice to know the history, the Neville family lived there. too.
